Choosing the right lens (or lenses) is very important to your project. Not only do they have to technically work but they have to give you the means to create the images that you want for your project.

If you are working in a small space or filming a large object then a wide angle lens like the Canon 16-35 F2.8L might be for you. If you are filming things that are far away then a telephoto lens is the way to go. 'Walkabout lenses” are called that because they are fairly wide and fairly long so that if you are walking about then these may well be the way to go. The Canon 24-70mm F2.8L is our most popular example but a lot of people like the Canon 24-105 F4L IS for the extra zoom range, particularly if filming outside or where there is a lot of available light, and the slower iris is not a concern.
Zoom lenses are the most flexible because they offer a range of focal distances but primes offer more quality.

The minimum F Stop or speed of the lens refers to how much light the iris or aperture lets onto the sensor. People love a fast lens because it allows you to shoot with less light so if you are working with available light this is very useful. It also allows the Photographer or Videographer to create images with beautiful blurred backgrounds.

Image stabilisation can be used with great results in photography. It allows the camera to be hand held at lower shutter speeds without getting image blur. The mighty Canon 70-200 F2.8L IS is one of the most popular lenses that we have and where the IS really comes into it's own.

These days the autofocus has got so good that it's hard not to rely on them for photography. Canon AF lenses are amazing but we also enjoy manual focus lenses like the Zeiss Loxia prime range.

If the think that you might need a longer telephoto lens but don't want he expense or the weight to carry then consider an extender. The Canon EF Extender 1.4x III and Canon EF Extender 2x III are cost effective, light and fit in a pocket. You do lose some F stop due to the additional glass the light moves through, but you gain the additional focal length.
