The Tascam DR-40 is a handy little audio recorder that features two XLR inputs, and the ability to provide +48v phantom power to microphones that require it. The DR-40 is especially useful when combined with DSLR and mirrorless cameras that tend to lack sophisticated audio inputs and controls.
The built in stereo pair is great for recording ambiance, and can be configured in either a narrow or wide pattern. And the two combined XLR and quarter inch inputs can be used with a wide variety of professional microphones and line inputs.
The ability to do dual level recording means that you can record the same input at a lower level to use as a save if volume suddenly increases causing the recording to peak.
