One of the biggest strengths of the 1D X Mark II is its ability to switch effortlessly between photography and video without compromise. Its 20.2 megapixel full-frame sensor delivers superb image quality with excellent dynamic range and low-light performance, while continuous shooting of up to 14fps with full autofocus (or 16fps in Live View) makes it ideal for capturing fast-moving action. Whether you're photographing sport, wildlife or live events, it remains one of the quickest and most dependable DSLRs ever produced.

On the video side, the camera records DCI 4K at up to 60fps internally using Canon's reliable Motion JPEG codec, with Full HD recording available at frame rates up to 120fps for smooth slow-motion footage. Although it doesn't offer the latest RAW or highly compressed recording formats found in modern cinema cameras, the footage is renowned for Canon's natural colour science and remains a popular choice for documentaries, behind-the-scenes filming and productions where a robust hybrid camera is required.

The camera uses Canon's EF lens mount, giving access to Canon's extensive range of L Series lenses along with countless third-party EF mount options. From fast portrait primes to professional telephoto zooms, there's an EF lens available for almost every type of photography or filmmaking.

There are, however, a few compromises. The integrated battery grip makes the 1D X Mark II considerably larger and heavier than most modern mirrorless cameras or even many other DSLRs. While this provides excellent balance with larger telephoto lenses and exceptional battery life, it can feel cumbersome for travel, long handheld shoots or gimbal work. If portability is your priority, cameras such as the Canon R5 for photography or Sony A7S III  for film, may be a better fit.

The camera records to CFast 2.0 media for its highest quality video formats. Our kits are supplied with 2 x 64GB CFast cards as standard, with additional cards available to hire  for longer productions or extended shooting days.

For photographers and filmmakers who value reliability, speed and a camera that genuinely performs well in both disciplines, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II remains an outstanding choice. It may not be the smallest hybrid camera available today, but its proven performance and professional build quality continue to make it a favourite on productions around the world.
