Sony ILME FX3

The FX3 shares much of its imaging technology with the acclaimed Sony A7S III but is designed specifically with filmmakers in mind. Features such as dedicated tally lights, multiple mounting points built directly into the body, active cooling for unlimited recording and a cinema-focused layout make it an ideal production camera straight out of the box. Its full-frame sensor delivers excellent dynamic range, outstanding low-light performance and professional recording formats up to 4K 120fps, making it suitable for everything from corporate interviews to high-end commercial work.

The camera uses Sony's highly versatile E-Mount, allowing full use of Sony G Master lenses with industry-leading real-time face and eye tracking autofocus. It can also be easily adapted to Canon EF lenses or PL mount cinema lenses, making it equally suited to lightweight documentary productions or narrative filmmaking with professional cinema glass.

Unlike larger cinema cameras, the FX3 is exceptionally well suited to handheld operation and compact gimbal setups. It includes Sony's professional XLR audio handle, providing two balanced XLR inputs with full manual audio controls and phantom power. For gimbal use, however, it's generally recommended to remove the audio handle, as its additional height shifts the camera's centre of gravity and can make balancing more difficult. With the handle removed, the FX3 becomes one of the very best cameras available for compact gimbal work, pairing perfectly with systems such as the DJI Ronin RS series while retaining outstanding image quality.

The FX3 records to CFexpress Type A or SD cards, but to unlock its highest-quality recording modes, professional codecs and high frame rates you'll need CFexpress Type A media. Our cameras are supplied with 2x 80GB CFexpress Type A cards as standard, with additional cards available to hire  for longer productions.

You can also run the camera from V-Mount batteries using a D-Tap Dummy Battery , if you needed to run for long periods of time. The camera can also run with USB-c power however this is not technically a mains power supply, and whilst it does the job in most cases it is not recommended.

Small enough to travel almost anywhere but capable enough for professional cinema production, the Sony FX3 has earned its reputation as one of the most versatile cameras on the market.
