Account Types
At Kit Cabin we realise that sending over paperwork can be a tedious task, but we have made the process as simple as we possibly can.
We have 2 types of Membership; Personal and Professional. Professional Accounts will require more documentation but will have less limitations on equipment and deposits.
It is always worth providing as much information as possible in case you need to increase your order at the last minute, or you require additional kit at a later date. But if you are just after that one bit of additional kit for that wedding shoot you somehow found yourself getting roped into, or want that extra long lens for your bird-watching or safari holiday, we will not require too much from you.
If you just want to browse the website and build a kit list without sending any documentation for now, that is fine, simply register your email address and password, but bare in mind that no equipment will be despatched until documents are checked and your account is set up.
On checkout a deposit may also be required to complete the process. But if you set up a Professional account in the meantime, the deposit will be returned, and when you are logged in with your Professional account in future the deposit will show as £0.
Please note we may use additional checks - such as a Risk Assessment service - to verify your account.
Documentation requirements and restrictions are as follows:
Personal Accounts
General Information
Name
Address
Contact Number
Email address
Document Requirements
2x Photo ID. - Passport & Driving Licence is ideal.
2x Proof of address - Utility Bill, Bank Statement, Government or Council Letter.
Limitations
Maximum total equipment value of £6,000 on hire at any one time.
Equipment can only be delivered to your verified address, or collected in person from one of our branches.
Deposit Required
A deposit will be required for equipment, which will be displayed in your basket once equipment is added. If equipment is returned damaged or missing parts, repair or replacement costs will be deducted from your deposit return. If the damage exceeds the deposit held, you will be invoiced for the additional repair or replacement costs.
We also offer a Damage Waiver, where a small additional charge limits the total payable for accidental damage. More information on the damage waivers can be found here.
Deposits are otherwise returned upon safe return of the equipment - please bare in mind it may take 4-7 days for this to process.
Insurance
Whilst we always encourage insurance even at lower values, to cover you should the worst happen, we won't insist on insurance unless the equipment value exceeds £3000. This means you can self-insure smaller items without going through the process of organising insurance.
Professional Accounts

Company Name / Your name if Freelance
Address
Contact Name and Phone Number

Document Requirements
2x Photo ID. - Passport & Driving Licence for the person responsible for the bookings, or for a senior company representative.

Trade References
2x Trade References - companies we can contact who can verify you are a trading business, so anyone you have supplied Goods or Services to, or purchased Goods/Service from. These companies must have been trading for 3 years or more.
We simply require an email address and phone number for somebody at the company who we can contact to confirm.
These email address must be for the company's official url address - gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc addresses will not be accepted.
We ask for 3 references to be supplied in case one cannot be contacted.
Limitations
The equipment value on hire at any one time has a much higher limit than personal accounts. If your basket exceeds this limit you will be contacted by our team to discuss your requirements.
Equipment can be delivered to any address, so we can send it straight to your shooting location, studio or crew members house. It can also be collected in person from one of our branches.
Deposit
A deposit is not required for a Professional account. If equipment is returned damaged or missing parts, we will invoice for repair or replacement costs. This will be for immediate payment so that we can get the equipment back in action and avoid loss-of-hire charges, which may become due if the equipment becomes out of action.
Insurance
A copy of your or your company's insurance must be uploaded, which must clearly show that it covers loss or damage to hired-in technical equipment. This must cover the full replacement value of the equipment and ongoing hire charges should equipment be taken out of action due to damage or loss.
If your company does not have existing cover for technical equipment then we won't insist on insurance unless the equipment value exceeds £3,000. This means you can self-insure smaller items without going through the process of organising insurance. However we strongly recommend an annual policy to cover ongoing needs. You can also take ad hoc short-term policies when required, but if your equipment value is over £3,000 our team will contact you each time to request a copy of the new policy schedule. Annual policies are also considerably cheaper to purchase than multiple short-term policies, so it is something you might want to look at depending on how often you intend to use this sort of equipment.
